Mill Creek Prison: The Most Haunted Facility in Oregon
Behind old prison brick walls just outside Salem, Oregon, lies a truly haunted place that’s lost to time! Mill Creek Prison is a haunted prison that’s been claimed by something darker than we know.
Mill Creek Prison was once a functioning correctional facility, now labyrinth of haunted history with lingering screams, and unexplained phenomena.
They tried to shut it down. But they couldn’t shut out the fear.
Dark Beginning of Mill Creek Prison
Mill Creek Prison was constructed in the early 1900s as a minimum-security labor camp. From the outside, it was just another piece of Oregon’s justice system. But within those walls, something sinister took root. Rumors of inhumane conditions, violent guards, and inmate disappearances spread like wildfire.
According to state archives, Mill Creek was a “rehabilitation facility.” But according to former staff and inmates, it was a place where people were forgotten… and possibly experimented on.
In the 1960s, a series of deaths rocked the prison that were officially labeled “accidents.” But investigative journalists and whistleblowers uncovered strange connections: prisoners moved into solitary confinement one day, vanished the next. No records. No graves.
The Prison That Broke Its Keepers
This place is scary! Guards began to report eerie events. Cell doors opening on their own. Hallway lights flickering even with full power. Cold drafts in sealed rooms. Whispers in languages no one could identify.
The nightmare is real! One night in 1974, an entire wing was evacuated after a group of inmates and staff claimed to see a figure hanging from the rafters… that was already buried weeks earlier.
Three of those witnesses were institutionalized within a year.
Unexplained Shutdown at Mill Creek Prison
In 2021, Mill Creek was “officially” closed for budget reasons. But those close to the situation know better. A final incident that is still classified by the state, occurred during a late-night lockdown drill. Emergency response teams arrived to find officers shaken, several inmates unresponsive.
The state sealed the facility, placed concrete barriers at the entrance, and scrubbed it from most official maps.
