Mill Creek Haunted Prison FAQ
What is Mill Creek Haunted Prison?
Tormented Illusion presents a brand-new collection of two haunted houses spread across two floors and 10,000+ sq. ft. of the former Mill Creek Correctional Institute outside Salem, Oregon. These attractions are the Mill Creek Haunted Prison and an additional haunt, themed for the current holiday (Halloween, Christmas, or Valentine’s Day).
When are the haunted houses open?
Our haunted houses in Salem, Oregon, are open from 7 pm to 11 pm on weekends, and 7 pm – 10 pm on weekdays. Please check our calendar for our open dates.
How can I buy haunted house tickets?
Tickets are available online or in person at the attraction. Buying online can help you avoid long lines and allow you to see the scares sooner. You can also purchase VIP tickets in advance to elevate your haunted house experience.
Are kids welcome at Mill Creek Haunted Prison?
The haunted attractions are designed for adults, but teens 13 and older are welcome to attend. We ask that younger children stay home. Please consider your child’s tolerance for scares before bringing them to the event.
What amenities are available at Mill Creek Haunted Prison?
A food truck will serve food and beverages outside the haunted house to enjoy while you wait. Enjoy a drink of “Liquid Death” while in line or after experiencing the scares.
There will be portable toilets available at the site as well. However, indoor bathrooms will not be available.
Is there parking at Mill Creek Haunted Prison?
Yes, there are two parking lots available at the attraction. The first parking lot is located directly outside the prison. Drive through the wrought iron gates and up the haunted hill to find standard and disability-friendly parking. If this parking lot reaches capacity, signs will guide you to overflow parking outside the gate.
What should I wear for the haunted house?
While the haunted houses occur indoors, lines for each attraction, tickets, food, and other amenities will all be outdoors. Wear clothing suited for inclement weather.
We also recommend wearing flat, closed-toed shoes. Tormented Illusion is home to more than 10,000 square feet of scares, so shoes that are comfortable and easy to walk in are essential.
Should I visit this haunted house if I have a heart condition?
We recommend that people who could experience adverse health effects from intense fear or jump scares choose another haunted attraction. Tormented Illusion is not recommended for people sensitive to loud noises, flashing lights, fog machines, or strong scents.
Will people touch me at the haunted houses?
Mill Creek Haunted Prison is a no-touch haunted house. Staff and performers will never touch guests outside of genuine medical emergencies. This goes both ways: we firmly enforce a no-tolerance policy for guests touching or harassing staff and performers.
How can I work or volunteer at Mill Creek Haunted Prison?

What is the history of the Mill Creek Correctional Facility?
The Mill Creek Correctional Facility, also known as Mill Creek Haunted Prison or MCCF, is a former minimum-security prison owned and operated by the Oregon Department of Corrections. It first opened in the 1920s and remained in operation until 2021, when it was closed as part of statewide sentencing reforms. In 2014, a prisoner escaped the facility and remained on the loose for several days.
MCCF was built on the grounds of the former Oregon State Reform School. This school was where “troubled” boys were sent because of “idleness, truancy, falsehood and theft.” Not every boy left, though. The cemetery on the grounds is the final resting place for four teenage boys, who may have died due to tuberculosis or one of the two fires that ravaged the grounds.
